Max Verstappen will take to the track at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend with a brand-new engine. His team, Red Bull Racing, has decided to fit a fresh power unit for the upcoming Grand Prix, a routine procedure aimed at maintaining performance and managing engine wear throughout the Formula 1 season.
Such an engine change is not unusual at this point in the calendar, especially given the varied circuit characteristics still ahead. The Spa-Francorchamps track, renowned for its long straights and high-speed turns, places high demands on the power unit, meaning a fresh unit could offer an advantage here.
It is not only in the top class that an engine swap is scheduled. Component changes are also taking place in Formula 2. Isack Hadjar, racing for Campos Racing, will likewise receive a new power unit for his race appearance in Belgium.
For both the reigning Formula 1 world champion and the Formula 2 driver, this ensures an optimal starting baseline with maximum power delivery, crucial for the challenging layout in the Ardennes.
