The Australian Grand Prix organizers have decided to rename Turn 6 of the Albert Park Circuit. From the 2026 season, the Melbourne corner will be known as 'In Her Corner', a direct nod to International Women's Day, which coincides with that year's season opener on Sunday, March 8.
The change pays tribute to two influential women in Formula 1: Laura Mueller and Hannah Schmitz. Both have proven themselves in key positions and serve as inspiring role models for the next generation of paddock talent.
Laura Mueller is known as Esteban Ocon's race engineer at Haas. The German engineer acts as the primary link between the driver and the team. In 2025, she made history by becoming the first woman to hold this demanding role full-time.
Hannah Schmitz, Head of Race Strategy at Red Bull, has worked with various drivers since joining in 2009. Her expertise played a crucial role in the team's recent successes in 2022 and 2023. Schmitz is also one of only eleven women ever to stand on a Formula 1 race podium.
