Lewis Hamilton has officially retained his podium position at the British Grand Prix. The stewards confirmed his third-place finish, although the Briton received an official reprimand for failing to slow down sufficiently during a yellow flag situation.
His spot on the rostrum briefly hung by a thread. With the race ending behind the safety car, even a five-second time penalty would have dropped Hamilton completely out of the points. Ultimately, race control decided against imposing a time penalty.
The stewards acknowledged several mitigating circumstances in the driver's favor. At the time, Hamilton was engaged in an intense battle with Max Verstappen, keeping his focus partly on his mirrors in anticipation of a counterattack. Furthermore, the yellow flag alert appeared late on his steering wheel display alongside a green light panel, and the yellow signal remained visible on his display only briefly.
Despite these factors, the stewards ruled that Hamilton did not slow down sufficiently after seeing the yellow signal on his wheel, failing to fully comply with single yellow flag regulations. However, the limited reaction time and his ongoing battle with Verstappen weighed heavily in the decision to limit the penalty to a reprimand.
