McLaren Receive Latest Engine Specification for Spa After Previous Delay
Following a forced delay caused by earlier reliability issues, McLaren will finally receive the latest Mercedes engine spec at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend, along with a fresh rear wing.

This weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, a major update awaits McLaren. The Woking-based outfit will receive the latest specification of the Mercedes engine, a development that the works team and other customer teams already benefitted from two races ago.
This delayed introduction was not a strategic choice, but a direct consequence of earlier setbacks. Persistent reliability issues, including crucial battery problems that hampered their start in China, forced McLaren to carefully manage component life. The postponement was necessary to optimize the mileage of existing engines before transitioning to the new units.
Alongside the much-needed engine upgrade, the team is also bringing a brand-new rear wing to Belgium, which will be thoroughly evaluated during free practice. However, Technical Director Neil Houldey tempers expectations; while a modest performance boost is hoped for, following a difficult British Grand Prix he anticipates no radical shift in competitiveness.
The reality is that despite these updates, McLaren do not expect an immediate giant leap. The team previously acknowledged it is rethinking and 'redirecting' its original concept choices. A 'significant' update package remains scheduled for the Hungarian Grand Prix, highlighting the ongoing pressure for further development.
