The discussion surrounding Ferrari's upgrade strategy recently escalated after Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff expressed surprise at the constant stream of updates introduced by the Scuderia this season. Last weekend in Austria, Wolff had already hinted that he found the Italian team's approach noteworthy.

Wolff has now suggested that Ferrari chief Fred Vasseur misunderstood his earlier comments. According to the Austrian, Vasseur reacted 'very emotionally' to the suggestion that Ferrari was bringing an unusual amount of updates to the circuits.

The Mercedes boss stressed that his intention was not to criticize the red outfit. He merely wanted to share his amazement at the speed and frequency with which Ferrari is introducing new parts, without passing judgment.

This minor exchange adds another layer to the paddock tension during the British Grand Prix, where the dynamic between top teams is always closely watched. The statements appear to open a new chapter in their ongoing rivalry.
