Antonelli Leads F1 2026 Mid-Season Ratings as Mercedes Rookie Sets Title Pace
With six victories in 11 races, 19-year-old Kimi Antonelli leads the championship standings while Max Verstappen and Lando Norris extract maximum results behind.

Entering the summer break 11 races into the 2026 Formula 1 championship, Kimi Antonelli has firmly established himself as the benchmark driver of the campaign. The 19-year-old Mercedes driver leads the standings by 50 points on the strength of six grand prix victories, maintaining an absolute podium record in every race he has managed to reach the chequered flag.
Antonelli's leap in form follows a challenging debut period, moving past his early 2024 practice crash at Monza to transform into a relentless front-runner. Over the winter, the Italian erased a four-tenth qualifying deficit to George Russell and took control of their intra-team battle, outperforming his more experienced colleague in race pace across consecutive months.
While minor flaws have surfaced, such as an FP3 crash in Australia that compromised qualifying setup, track-limits penalties and occasional over-reaching in battle, none have torpedoed his overall results. A notable display of determination came at the British Grand Prix, where Antonelli fought to finish in a severely crippled car, complementing a dominant weekend in Monaco where he controlled the race from the front.
Beyond the championship leader, Max Verstappen has extracted remarkable results from Red Bull’s aerodynamically unstable package. Operating with what is currently evaluated as the grid’s fourth-fastest car, the Dutchman came close to victories in Miami and Monaco. He underlined his ongoing performance level with an incisive pass on Lewis Hamilton during the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Defending world champion Lando Norris has also stepped forward, leading McLaren's campaign amidst tight opposition. Holding an 11-4 qualifying record over team-mate Oscar Piastri, Norris delivered McLaren’s solitary win of the season prior to the break. Following the introduction of an upgrade package at the Hungaroring, he appears best positioned to spearhead the team's chase.
Further down the field, rookie drivers have made notable impacts against far more experienced team-mates. At Audi, Gabriel Bortoleto built a 10-2 points advantage over Nico Hulkenberg across the opening 11 rounds, claiming ninth place in Australia alongside eighth-place finishes in Great Britain and Belgium before Hulkenberg scored his first points in Hungary.
At Racing Bulls, newcomer Arvid Lindblad has worked alongside Liam Lawson to elevate the team to fifth in the constructors' standings entering the summer break. With McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull striving to close the gap to Mercedes, Antonelli faces the task of maintaining composure across the remaining rounds to seal his championship bid.
